La Menacha shows that discovering nature does not always require a long drive. North of Algeciras, the walk brings visitors into a landscape where wild olive groves and riverside woodland coexist close to the city. Around the Celupal dam, you can observe how water organises vegetation and enjoy a different kind of pause just steps from the city's everyday spaces. Alders, ashes and cork oaks form part of the reading suggested by municipal information. The greatest attraction of this walk is learning to look without expecting a guaranteed spectacle. Bring binoculars if birds interest you, walk quietly and spend a few minutes at each observation point: wildlife presence depends on season and moment. The municipal guide describes a route towards a small hill of wild olive trees and an exit near the industrial estate. On a first visit, study that connection or prefer to return along the familiar path. Do not enter facilities, approach the dam's edge or leave public rights of way. La Menacha is best enjoyed as a small reserve of attention within the rhythm of Algeciras.
