Pelayo is a wonderful gateway to discovering the transition between forest and coast. The Cerro del Tambor route starts around Huerta Grande and invites you to view the Strait from its hills, at enough distance to understand the shape of the coast. Its appeal lies in that gradual shift: leaving sheltered surroundings for a landscape where sky, wind and water take prominence. This route asks you to spend time orienting yourself in the landscape, rather than connecting points without stopping. Identify the direction of the sea, observe the shapes of the slopes and use available panels as a small reading guide. Panoramas change with visibility, and clear horizons should not be promised every day. It is also essential to distinguish the Tambor trail from long circular routes descending to the coast, passing Guadalmesí and returning to Huerta Grande. That extension changes the effort and planning. For a first visit, retain the official itinerary as your reference and save enough energy to return in daylight without haste.

The landscape, step by step

Consult the official Cerro del Tambor leaflet. The linked track represents a different coastal extension.
