The Colada de la Costa discovers the south on foot, with a closeness to the sea that transforms the journey. Hills, small valleys and open views alternate; along the coast, layers of rock suggest a timescale far longer than an excursion. This is a proposal for observing and understanding, leaving stones, fossils and vegetation where they are. Its name recalls a livestock passage: the walk shares territory with rural uses that still deserve respect. Different variants can begin at Punta Secreta or connect from Huerta Grande, and should not be mixed as though their distances were identical. For a first experience, choose an out-and-back section with a turnaround deadline, or organise the logistics of a full crossing. Being near the sea does not mean walking along a continuous beach; there are changes in elevation, exposure to wind and crossings affected by rain. Returning to Algeciras after walking part of this coast lets you understand the Strait as a lived landscape, rather than merely a blue line on a map.
The landscape, step by step

Do not add or interchange distances between Punta Secreta–Tarifa and Huerta Grande–coast: they are different variants.
Where to walk and what to discover
- Choose either Punta Secreta access or the official Huerta Grande connection, without combining variant instructions.
- Follow the permitted route and coastal trail signs.
- Observe coastal formations from the path, without descending unstable slopes.
- Return along the same section or use return transport arranged before departure.
Access and preparation
Several approaches exist. Consult the municipal leaflet and the Colada de la Costa–Huerta Grande leaflet to choose one.
- Do not collect rocks, minerals or fossils.
- Leave gates as you found them and respect livestock.
- Avoid crossing flowing streams and check wind, rain and return arrangements.
